Homemade Halloween costumes

Halloween coustumes can cost a lot of money AND you can show up in the same exact one as someone else. Who wants that.  But you can make your own for less & it be original.  So with halloween coming around the corner before you know it I decided to do a post on it.

Now lots of people put together costumes.  A lot of times people wear black & become a cat, punk rocker, police & so on but you can make your own costume & spice it up.  What I normally do is I goto the mall & walk in to Forver 21 & see what they have & what costumes I can make from it.  Not everyone can so easily think on their feet but hopefully after I show you some of my costumes & how easily you can make something out of nothing it will inspire you.

2 years ago my friend & I decided to do toddlers & tiaras.  Yes this was a semi popular costume but yes ours were the best! How to make it: I simply took 2 white hanes & dyed them pink with some Rit dye you can buy at most crafts stores. I happened those big feathers in my house so I glued them on & I glued some rhinestones I bought on as well as some flowers.  I bought the flowers from Michaels’ & cut them off the stem.  To make a sash I simply bought some thick ribbon & painted on Little Miss with some black paint I had.  I already owned the tutu & bike shorts to wear under.  I then bought a crown at Claire’s & tada all done & a original costume. Make up & hair really make a difference in coustumes too.    (*if you don’t have a certain piece of clothing you need ask your friends i’m sure they are willing to share which is a money saver)

This same year on a different night we were decided to dress up as women that goto the derby. To make this: I forgot the store name we bought the dress from, ( I was visiting her in Arizona where she goes to school) but it was a dress we found on sale & was very cheap.  Then all we needed was accessories which were not to expensive at all.  We got a “pearl” necklace, white gloves, & a hat. Simply, cheap, original, & a great costume.  We got soo many compliments on it, we were surprised.This last year I had the idea of going as an alien at first when I saw all the metallic silver clothing in Forever 21.  That idea then somehow turned into going as Zenon Girl of the 21st Century from the disney channel.  I never even looked up what she looked like but I just went with it from memory & it turned out pretty well I think.  To make this: I got a blue valor dress & a metallic silver skirt from Forever 21.  Then I found VERY old butterfly clips in my house that I put in my hair after curling it.  I also found some old earrings, an old bracelet that I thought went with the theme & a VERY old hot loop to wear as a necklace.  I put some makeup on with glitter & done.   I was not actually the next costume below but this is to show how easily a costume can be made from nothing.  While I was at my friends house getting dress I had put my dress on & then wanted to play a little dress up. While playing dress I had decided I had come up with a new costume, a video gurrrrrl. To make this: I just added accessories to my dress. I put on a studded hat , some sunglasses, & a chunky necklace.  How easy is it?

So when halloween comes around & you want to have a great original costume & not spend a ton REMEMBER its easy, you just have to be a little creative & think a little. GOODLUCK & I hope you have a happy halloween!

GUNS & love NAILS

I LOVE NAILS. I LOVE PLAYING AROUND WITH DESIGNS & HAVING FUN.  I THINK NAILS CAN SAY A LOT ABOUT A PERSON. IVE BEEN SEEING DIFFERENT NAILS I LOVE ONLINE & ALWAYS WANNA DO THEM INCORPORATE THE DIFFERENT ONES INTO ONE MANICURE. SO YESTERDAY WHEN I WAS BORED WATCHING TV I DECIDED TOO. I WISH MY WHITE NAIL POLISH WASNT ALMOST OUT & GOOEY & GROSS SO THEY COULD OF COME OUT BETTER BUT I DO STILL LOVE THEM A LOT. (I bought new white this morning cause i’m already to do something new)

ONCE I GET INTO SOMETHING I BECOME OBSESSED. CLEARLY MY NEW RECENT OBSESSION IS NAILS.  I HAVENT BEEN OBSESSED WITH DOING DIFFERENT NAIL DESIGNS IN A WHILE BUT IM HAPPY IM BACK TO THIS OBSESSION BECAUSE IT SURE IS A FUN ONE & MOST IMPORTANTLY THIS OBSESSION DOESN’T CAUSE ME TO GAIN WEIGHT & ENJOY TO MANY CALORIES.

I USED A SMALL PAINT BRUSH TO MAKE THE DESIGNS.  FOR THE LIGHTNING BOLT (THAT DIDNT COME OUT AS I WOULD OF LIKED) I DID A TIE DYE TYPE NAIL & THEN PAINTED WHITE AROUND THE BOLT.  AFTER THE WHITE I PAINTED THE BLACK OUTLINE.

Galaxy Nails

The best things about doing galaxy nails is nothing has to be perfect.  Its how much you want of each color & where you want the colors.  To begin I painted a coat of black nail polish.   After that dried I painted some teal/green (Sinful Colors Rise and Shine) in random places as well as some maroon (Essie Show Stopper).  (These don’t have to be your color choices.  If you look online some people use colors such as purples & pinks in their galaxy nails.)  At the end I painted on some old Wet & Wild clear gold sparkle nail polish I found in my house.  You  need a polish that is clear & has sparkles in it so you can see the other colors under it.

Really easy & cool all at the same time.

Flower nail art

I love nail art! When my friend came over the other day after painting her nails I decided I wanted to spice them up a bit & throw a flower on them.  I loved how it came out that much I decided to try them on myself.  When I get an idea in my head I always want to do it right away. After getting ready & waiting for my friends to come over before we went out I felt the need to rush and do it.

For these nails I used Essie Main Squeeze, Color Club Vintage Couture, Color Club Mrs.Robinson, & Art Club Steele This Look.

First I painted my nails with Main Squeeze as if I would for a plain manicure. Then I took Vintage Couture and painted circles (not perfect circles) on my nails in random places.  Those circles are where you want the flower to be.  Then I took a very small paint brush and dipped it into a little Mrs. Robinson & drew the darker purple onto my nails.

For the one nail with the silver stripes I took the Steele This Look which is ment for nail art because it has a smaller brush & easily drew diagonal lines.

For my friends nails I made leaves.  First I painted some white & before it dried I painted some green over it so it would mix into different shades.  I used the small paint brush for the leaves as well.

A lot of nail art is a lot easier then it looks.  Just goto an art store and buy a tiny brush to make it possible.  If the brush you have is not stiff enough & you don’t care about ruining it in a sense, if paint dry’s on it, it will make it stiffer & easier to paint with.

BRACELETS FROM SCRAPS

EVERY YEAR PEOPLE THROW AWAY MILLIONS OF THINGS THAT SEEM LIKE JUNK BUT IN REALITY ITS NOT.  I THANKFULLY HAPPENED TO BE AT MY FRIENDS HOUSE WHEN SHE WAS ABOUT TO THROW OUT SOME OLD SANDALS BECAUSE THOSE “JUNK” SANDALS BECAUSE NEW BRACELETS.

YOU HAVE TO THINK OUT OF THE BOX.  IT MIGHT NOT SEEM OBVIOUS TO YOU ALWAYS, BUT YOU CAN MAKE SO MANY DIFFERENT PROJECTS FROM THINGS PEOPLE JUST THROW OUT.

I CUT UP HER SANDALS & SEWED THE STRAPS TOGETHER.  WHEN THEY WERENT ON YOUR WRIST YOU COULD SEE WHERE THEY WERE CUT & SEWED BUT ONCE THEY WERE ON YOU HAD NO IDEAS.  SO NEXT TIME YOU ARE ABOUT TO THROW SOMETHING OUT, STOP & THINK OF THE MILLIONS OF POSSIBILITIES YOU CAN DO WITH THAT “GARBAGE”

FOR EXAMPLE SHIRTS WITH SEQUINS OR COOL BUTTONS & STUDS YOU CAN BE CUT OFF FOR FUTURE PROJECTS.  YOU CAN CUT UP OLD JEANS TO MAKE BRACELETS OR USE SHIRT FABRICS TO HANG OFF THE BOTTOM OF DREAMCATCHERS.  MANY THINGS HAVE MORE USES THEN THE ORIGINAL ONE THEY WERE BOUGHT FOR.

BEJEWELED LETTERS

IM ALL ABOUT AN EASY PROJECT THAT CAN ADD A LITTLE SOMETHING TO MY ROOM.  THATS EXACTLY WHAT THIS PROJECT IS. YOU CAN CHOOSE TO DO YOUR INITIALS LIKE I DID, SPELL OUT YOUR NAME, WRITE WORDS, ANYTHING.  YOU CAN EVEN DO OTHER SHAPES.  I WENT TO MICHAELS (there also at JOANNS CRAFTS) AND BOUGHT WOODEN LETTERS.  I THEN TOOK SOME GOLD PAINT I HAD IN MY HOUSE TO PAINT THEM SO IN THE SPACES BETWEEN THE JEWELS YOU DONT JUST SEE THE WOOD.

THIS IS AT JOANN’S CRAFT STORE.YOU THEN SIMPLY GLUE THE JEWELS ON WHEREVER YOU WOULD LIKE. YOU CAN DO THEM ALL ONE COLOR OR MULTICOLORED LIKE ME.  JEWELS COME IN ALL SIZES.  *IF YOU DONT HAVE TO MUCH PATIENCES I ADVISE YOU NOT TO JEWEL THEM ALL WITH THE SUPER MINI ONES.

LIPS PHOTO

SOMETHING FUN & EASY TO MAKE & ITS A GREAT ADDITION TO YOUR ROOM.  YOU CAN MAKE MANY DIFFERENT VARIETIES OF THIS.  I PLAN TO MAKE A BIGGER ONE FOR MY SISTER TO HANG ON HER WALL. YOU CAN HAVE DIFFERENT DESIGNED PICTURE FRAMES, DIFFERENT COLORED LIPSTICKS,  ADD SOME SPARKLES, OR EVEN SOME TEXT.

ON A PRACTICE PAPER I USED, I WROTE WITH LOVE.  I ACTUALLY TOOK A PICTURE OF IT & MADE IT THE NEW LOCK SCREEN ON MY PHONE.

YOU CAN MAKE THIS FOR A FRIEND, YOUR MOM OR FOR YOURSELF.  IT WILL PROBABLY BE ONE OF THE EASIEST PROJECTS YOU WILL EVER DO.  ALL YOU NEED IS SOME LIPSTICK OR LIPGLOSS & A PICTURE FRAME.

STUDDED shoes

AFTER STUDDING MY BELOVED CONVERSE I HAD EXTRA STUDS.  WHY SHOULD THEY GO TO WASTE? INSTEAD I FOUND THESE SHOES AT URBAN FOR UNDER 20 DOLLARS & SNAZZED THEM UP A BIT. I SIMPLY STUCK SOME STUDS ON THE SIDES & FRONTS.

YOU CAN EASILY FIND PLAIN SHOES (THEY DONT NEED TO BE THIS STYLE) & MAKE THEM YOUR OWN TOO.  JUST MAKE SURE THE STUDS WILL BE ABLE TO PUSH THROUGH.

CHALKED RAINBOW HAIR

NO I DID NOT THINK THIS UP ALL ON MY OWN. YES MOST OF YOU ALREADY KNOW THAT.  THE LINK BELOW IS WHERE I HAD FOUND THE IDEA & LEARNED THE STEPS. http://thebeautydepartment.com/2012/01/chalk-it-up/

I LOVED THE IDEA THAT IT WASNT PERMANENT. I HAVE ONLY DYED MY HAIR 2 OR 3 TIMES BEFORE SO CLEARLY IM NOT BIG INTO THE HAIR DYING THING. (1 BEING THE OMBRE I HAD DONE 2 YEARS AGO FEBRUARY & I HAD FINALLY GOTTEN COMPLETELY RID OF 3 MONTHS AGO)

“CHALKING” YOUR HAIR IS SOMETHING THATS QUICK & EASY TO DO.  I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND DOING OFTEN BECAUSE IT IS DRYING TO YOU HAIR.

I WENT TO MICHAELS & BOUGHT SOFT PASTELS, YES THE KIND YOU ACTUALLY USE FOR ART PROJECTS.  LIKE THEM I DECIDED TO USE BLUES, PURPLES, & PINKS BUT REALLY ANY COLOR WORKS.  I COULD GIVE YOU DETAILED DIRECTIONS BUT IM JUST GOING TO TELL YOU TO CLICK THE LINK PROVIDED ABOVE BECAUSE THOSE DIRECTIONS ARE SPOT ON.

I LOVED HOW IT CAME OUT SO MUCH I WAS ACTUALLY DECIDING IF I SHOULD DO IT PERMANENTLY.  I ENDED UP OPTING OUT BUT I ENJOYED IT WHILE I HAD IT.

* MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A TOWEL YOU CAN RUIN AROUND.  THE CHALK DOES MAKE A MESS & TURN INTO A POWDER WHEN YOUR APPLYING IT.  PLACE A TOWEL UNDER YOU ALL AROUND YOU WHATEVER YOU NEED TO DO TO KEEP EVERYTHING CLEAN. (I DONT REMEMBER IF IT STAINS)

ACID WASH NAILS

EVER HEARD OF ACID WASH JEANS? WELL NOW YOU CAN HAVE ACID WASH NAILS TO MATCH.  THESE ARE IN A TIE FOR MY FAVORITE NAILS EVER WITH THE BLACK MATTE FRENCH NAILS.

IF YOU WANT YOU CAN CHOOSE OTHER COLORS TOO.  YOU CAN CALL THEM ACID WASH COLORED JEANS. KIDDING.

TO ACHIEVE THESE NAILS 1. PAINT YOUR BASE COLOR (I USED OPI RUSSIAN NAVY) AS YOU WOULD FOR A NORMAL MANICURE BUT ONLY 1 COAT.  2. AFTER LETTING THEM DRY PAINT YOUR SECOND COLOR, MINE BEING WHITE IN THE PHOTO ABOVE.  3. AFTER LETTING THEM DRY, TAKE A CUTIP & DIP IT IN NAIL POLISH REMOVER. *DONT DRENCH IT.  4. LIGHTLY WIPE AWAY SOME OF THE WHITE WITH THE QUTIP.  YOU WILL SEE THE UNDER COLOR POPPING THROUGH.  AFTER THE FIRST DAY YOULL HAVE THE HANG OF IT.  WIPE AS LITTLE OR MUCH AWAY AS YOU WANT. 5. PAINT YOUR TOP COAT & YOUR ALL DONE.
